Nicole Mitchell Residency: Liberation Narratives

Liberation Narratives is spoken word jazz collaboration between Chicago treasure and distinguished poet Haki R. Madhubuti, and composer/flutist Nicole Mitchell. Mitchell’s Black Earth Ensemble will feature Madhubuti performing poems from his book Liberation Narratives, which covers nearly 50 years of his creative history.

In the 2016/17 academic year, renowned flutist and composer Nicole Mitchell will be in residence at the Logan Center. Activities will include her November 10 performance and recording of Liberation Narratives; the Voices Heard pilot program on November 20; a performance on April 8 of a commission entitled Gwendolyn Brooks: In the Mecca performed by Mitchell’s Black Earth Ensemble; as well as student workshops and an Artist Live public conversation.
