Liza Day

April 9, 2016 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Founded in 2008 by singer/song-writer and Wisconsin native Liza Day, this 5-piece from Chicago is rooted in the alternative-country tradition. Liza herself is a graduate and former artist in residence of The Contemporary Music Center in Martha’s Vineyard. She leads the band with an unforgettably warm and pure voice skillfully combined with performances as vulnerable and sincere as the songs she’s written. Musically the band’s style can be described as classic country layered with a raw, untidy, rockabilly vibe.

August of 2009 saw the release of the debut album entitled, “Liza Day and the Northbound Trestle Singers,” which was recorded and produced in Chicago. Since the debut’s release Liza Day has completed several tours on the East Coast and in the Midwest. Back home in Chicago they continue to play many well known local venues including; Schuba’s Fitzgerald’s, Bottom Lounge, and many others. The band recently opened for Sahara Smith during her national tour. Their song “Before All Turns Grey,” was featured in the 2011 documentary “Out of Respect: A Story of Five,” directed by Emmy Award winning filmmaker Tess Gallun.

During the summer of 2011 the band toured the Midwest while preparing for their highly anticipated EP. Following their Midwest shows half of the band (Liza Day & Adam Wisz) headed overseas for their first UK tour. Their music was well received in Glasglow and in Edinburgh at the Fringe Festival. Liza Day made their way into the semifinals of the festival’s popular Lach’s Antihoot, a show that later earned a 5-star rating from The Herald Scotland.

Upon returning from the UK in fantastic spirits, Liza Day headed into the studio in September to record their 6 song EP titled, “One for Courage.” Recording was done in Nashville at Grammy nominated producer Paul Moak’s studio, The Smoakstack. After a wildly successful Kickstarter campaign “One For Courage” was released in October of 2012.
