Schubas

Schubas

Schubas in Lakeview—the music venue, not the brothers who own it—operates out of a 110-year-old building, designated as a Chicago historic landmark in 2011, that was erected by Schlitz Brewery. It’s a cozy, intimate back-room venue for catching indie, folk, Americana, pop, and singer-songwriter acts, and the sound almost always is great.

In the front area, the main bar is a suitable place to hang and mingle, and upstairs is an endearing space for private events. The shows in the back usually are standing room, but occasionally it holds seated performances, making the experience even more charming. Next door is the Schubas-owned Harmony Grill, whose food you can get in the venue too. The menu is a little pricy for bar food, but it’s underrated—and it has all sorts of options for loaded mac and cheese.

The Schuba brothers also opened Lincoln Hall in 2009, giving them two great venues to their name.
